If you have recently purchased a pair of WH-1000XM3s, then there is a firmware upgrade already up on Sony’s support website. The upgrade brings the firmware version to 2.0.0 and improves the following: Optimises the headphones for Google Assistant.

This seems to add Google Assistant support to the headphones it seems.

The following is from the support site:

IMPORTANT:

  • Installing this firmware will only make your headphones compatible with the Google Assistant.
  • The Google Assistant itself will be activated by Google in the course of 2018. Depending on your country, activation might vary.
