How to Create a Playlist on Windows 11 for your Walkman
If you own a non-Android Walkman which supports drag and drop, my old tutorial will probably not work on Windows 11. So here are 2 options, the first using Media Player and the second using Winamp. This tutorial is directed at the Sony OS players, rather than the Android models and the newer NW-A30/40/50.
Media Player
This is the method I came up with, it may be a bit complicated, but I cannot find a simpler way on my Windows 11 PC for the time. If anyone knows a simpler and quicker method using Media Player, do post it in the comments.
Step 1
Open up Media Player on your computer, and select the Playlists section.
Step 2
Create a new playlist.
Step 3
Open your Walkman’s music directory using Windows Explorer, select the files you want to add to the playlist. Next click “Add to Media Player play queue”. If you do not see this option, you may have to select the Show more options at the bottom of the menu.
Step 4
The files should now be present in the Play queue section in Media Player.
Step 5
Press the “+ Add to” button and select your playlist you made earlier.
Step 6
The songs should now be in your new playlist.
Step 8
If you want to add more songs, go back to the Play queue and clear it. This allows you to add new songs to the Play queue, starting off again at Step 3 again.
Step 9
To find the playlist file, open Windows explorer by pressing Windows+E, then Music, and then Playlists. Your m3u8 file should be there. Copy the file to your Walkman’s main directory. eject the Walkman, and then search for the playlist in your menu, either via the centre music icon, then choose playlists, or scroll to the top right playlist icon and select it.
Winamp
Step 1
If you do not like using Media player and already have Winamp on your PC, use this guide.
Step 2
Plug in your Walkman and browse the directory with your music.
Step 3
Select the songs for your playlist, and then drag them into the playlist section. Add more songs to your playlist, re-arrange them as you want them to appear in the playlist.
Step 4
Then in the lower right corner, click the LIST OPTS button. Next click the SAVE LIST. Select a place to save the playlist, like a playlist folder or your desktop.
Step 5
Move the playlist over to your Walkman’s main directory.
Step 6
Eject the Walkman, and let it build the library. Once the main menu appears, you can find the playlist 2 ways. First, select the centre music icon, then choose playlists. The second, scroll to the top right playlist icon and select it.
These are the methods for Windows 11. I prefer to use the Winamp method since it is easier to add files and re-arrange them in Winamp. For newer players, Sony has their Sony Music Center. I have never used it, so no idea if it compatible with the older players.
