Sony Trademarked 1000X THE COLLEXION
Sony has trademarked something interesting, “1000X THE COLLEXION“. The trademark was filled in late June in both Japan and Canada. The trademark hints at what products could be part of this series/collection in the description.
Headphones; earphones; portable audio players; radios; loudspeakers; amplifiers; television receivers; telecommunication machines and apparatus
I find it interesting that portable audio players are also included. Perhaps we will see some Walkman models in the future using this trademark? Sony did trademark ULT Wear, ULT Field, ULT Tower before the release of the ULT line, so perhaps the “1000X THE COLLEXION” could be special edition models of the current lineup.
Here are the listings. The trademark in Canada is still Pending, so it is not yet approved. I check trademarks in Germany and Justia, but nothing is present there yet.
So what are people’s thoughts, what could we be looking at here?
Update 3 – April 9
New details regarding the Collexion model from Dealabs and a user on reddit. Dealabs has confirmed that the new headset will also be available in White and have Noise Cancellation. This clearly points to this headset being YY2998.
The additional details are from reddit by user Ntinaras007, who claims they are testing the headset.
While they cannot post any photos, they did state the build quality was “outstanding with metal hinges, soft plastic and faux leather”. The user also states that audio quality was not different previous, but no model was mentioned. Obviously they broke their NDA by posting any information, and no doubt once Sony sees this post, the post will disappear.
Gathering all the information I have, this is what we are looking at:
- Wireless Noise Cancelling headset
- Black and White colours
- MT2855 Bluetooth SoC (Sony V3?)
- Premium materials like metal
- Most likely using QN3
- DSEE Extreme possible
- 629 Euros
- May 19th announcement
We are missing a lot of details, like Bluetooth version, battery life, driver size, or if there is any USB-C audio support. Perhaps this model will be Sony’s answer to the Airpod Max line, but my guess is, it is more related to the 10 year anniversary of the 1000X line which is in September.
Update 2 – April 7
I was not expecting to be updating this post, but there are some new details from Dealabs and billbil-kun. Apparently Sony is preparing to release a new headset positioned above the WH-1000XM6 in terms of price, 629 Euros. Dealabs speculates that this could be a limited edition model. The release date is slated for May 19th. It will be initially only offered in black.
We have no other details, like if this new model is wireless or wired. If the model is wireless, there is only one candidate, YY2998. The short term confidentiality date ends on June 22, which would fit the May 19th release/announcement date. But YY2998 was imported into various countries for testing in 2 colours, white and black, as filings show YY2998/BZ and YY2998/WZ.
So either this Collexion model will be offered at first in black, with white arriving later, or the white colour option will only be offered in certain regions, like Asia Pacific.
YY2998 is also made in Vietnam. Would Sony really make a premium model costing over 600 Euros in Vietnam? If yes, then the model will come with noise cancellation as well.
The other option is for the Collexion model to be wired only, like the MDR-Z1R for example. A wired model will not have certification. Although IER-EX15C (YY3004) did appear on Korea’s FCC before their announcement. As of this update, there is only one other headset which was certified on Korea’s FCC, YY3005. But with the variety of colours offered and lower end SoC, this is most likely the WH-CH530 successor.
Hopefully we will have some more details in the next few weeks which will clarify things. If anyone has anymore details, please contact me.
Update 1 – February 3
It has been a while since Sony trademarked 1000X THE COLLEXION, but it looks like the Japanese trademark information has been updated. The listing now has a registration date and registration publication date, January 7, 2026, and January 16, 2026 respectively.
Additionally, it looks like the trademark has also appeared on WIPO in late December 2025. I did check the German trademark office but it has not shown up there yet. Wonder when we will see products or editions with this trademark.
