Sony Introduces the IER-EX15C
Just my luck. Only yesterday I wrote that we should see YY3004 sometime in September, guess that sometime is today. While I do not have direct evidence this is YY3004, it matches the colours and the in-ear nature of the design. We will have to wait for a reference guide to confirm this is YY3004. And confirmed, through the online guide.
This is not Sony’s first USB-C model, as the MDR-1ADAC also used USB-C for audio as well. Unless there was another model I missed, please leave it in the comments.
There is not much to write about for this new model apart from the specifications.
- 4 colours – black, white, blue and pink
- 5mm driver
- Weight – 3g
- Inline microphone
- USB type-C connection
- Tangle-free cord design
- Price – €25 / £20 / $39 CAD / $29 USD
These should be available next week from what I can see. I am curious how well they will sound, and if Sony has improved the sound quality over the original MDR-EX15. I own a pair of EX15s, and they sound fine for a low end entry model, but the MDR version has 9mm drivers, where as the new IER model has 5mm. So I do not expect an identical sound.

Not sure how well these will sell. I personally still use wired in-ear earphones when making videos, but prefer wireless earbuds when watching videos, and listening to music. These are compatible with USB Audio Class 1.0 devices according to the press release.
So anyone interesting in picking these up? Should Sony offer more in-ear models, and especially with a USB-C connection?
