A Trio of Sony Speakers Coming Later this Year
I have not covered Sony’s wireless speakers lately, but these 3 upcoming wireless models look to be something possibly unique.
There are a total of 3 different models, YY7869E, YY7870E, and YY7871E. I initially did not spot these on the FCC, because Sony did not register them, Tonly did, all the way back on March 31/April 1. The short term confidentially date ends on September 28/29, so a reveal in August is a possibility. While all 3 models were registered individually, the manual seems to indicate the models are related, and could be one product.
I first spotted the speakers on Apple’s MFi, which is when I decided to look for more details and certifications.
Apart from the FCC and MFi certifications, the speakers showed up on China’s CMIIT, Malaysia’s SIRIM, and Mexico’s SRT. I am not sure why all the models were not certified in China and Malaysia at the same time like the other certification sites.
Back to the FCC filing. I will start with YY7869E.
The label document photo is just a generic rectangular box, similar to past Tonly certifications. The shape of the unit might still mimic the photo, so thin and tall. This unit is wireless, but not cordless, so it will require AC power. We have the power consumption, 310W, so perhaps we are looking at a rather large unit here. For comparison the ULT Power 10 has a power consumption rating of 139W on the Sony website. The unit has an IPX1 rating, and is made in Vietnam.

- A serial of LINE 1 Ports (L/R)
- One LINE 2 Port
- One LINE OUT Port
- MIC Port x1
The Bluetooth module is the Sunitec BMS003P, which uses the Mediatek MT2833 as the main SoC.
Next up is YY7870E.
The label photo provides no real design details (again), but we do know the power consumption, 79W, it will be made in Vietnam, and that the speaker will have an IPX4 rating. The wireless antenna is the same as YY7869E, BMS003P.
YY7870E will be equipped with an internal battery, 7.2V, model number B0868. The battery capacity is 6000mAh, which is provided in the filing from YY7871E.
The ports on YY7870E are as follows:
- USB-C port (for PC/phone)
- USB-A port (for USB drive)
- Mic port x1
- LINE 1 (L/R) ports x2
- LINE 2 port
- LINE out port
- AC Power
So identical to YY7869E.
Finally moving onto YY7871E.
The general shape of the speaker looks to be similar to YY7870E, but the power consumption is higher at 112W, so perhaps a larger unit?. The speaker also has an IPX4 rating, and is made in Vietnam. The wireless antenna is BMS003P, and the internal battery is identical to YY7870E, 7.2V 6000mAh.
The ports are the same as YY7869E and YY7870E
So we have 3 speaker units, all 3 wireless, but only 2 are equipped with a rechargeable battery. Could this be some kind of speaker set for parties? One main unit, with 2 portable speakers which can be setup further away?
I decided to check the import filings, and found this.
The “PARTY BOX PROTO”. A name like Sony Party Box or something along those lines makes sense, but this could just be a working title name for the prototype. Maybe this will be stand alone product, or part of the ULT line of wireless speakers.
YY7870E import filings reveal that the speaker will be equipped with 3 driver units.
YY7871E has a similar import filing to YY7869E. While I suspect YY7870 and YY7871 are similar, the import filings do not confirm this.
That is all the information I have right. From what I can see, this looks to be some kind of party set, where 2 speakers are portable with 1 main unit attached to power. Will be interesting how Sony will price this set. If the model will support LE Audio and Auracast, then both speakers should be able to deliver stereo sound. But if there is no Auracast support, then the speakers should work as left and right units over regular Bluetooth, like giant earbuds.
