Sony YY3012 – New In-Ear Headset

A new Sony headset new has appeared in import filings, YY3012, or EPP-SON3012. The import filings are not very specific, but I believe we have enough details to at least identify what this model could be.

Starting off with model code, EPP-SON3012. This code is from Cresyn, an OEM, which manufacturers some of Sony’s headsets, like the WF-C710N. I believe I figured out Cresyn’s naming scheme in a previous post, and here is what it is.

  • BTP – wireless over-ear headsets
  • HPP – wired headsets
  • TNP – wireless earbuds
  • EPP- wired in-ear (IER)
  • EMP – wired in-ear (MDR)

Based off this, EPP-SON3012 should be a wired in-ear model, like the Inzone E9 (EPP-SON025). And from the import descriptions, this is what we could be looking at.

The first batch of imports go back to early March. Nothing specific is revealed here, except perhaps the jack converter detail and that tucked ear information. The INZONE E9’s hangers, as Sony describes them, also tuck behind the ear.

The next batch of imports up to late March have a bit more details. These are moulds for the new headset, and it includes parts like clip upper, housing front, mdd holder (?), and more importantly, MMCX holder. This detail might indicate we are looking at another in-ear model with an MMCX connection. For anyone not familiar with MMCX, it is a connection type for in-ear monitor headphones. Sony uses the connection in their premium and high-end in-ear wired models. Below is a photo of the INZONE E9 and the connection.

The import filings list 3 colours, BZ, WZ and ZZ. The first 2 are obvious, but I do not recall ever seeing a Z colour code for Sony. Anyone know what it could be? Perhaps it will be a see through glass version?

Sony YY3012YY3012 listings do not reveal anything additional.

From the cresyn code we know this is a in-ear wired model, 3 colours (black, white, unknown), and the model uses MMCX connections. This information points to perhaps another INZONE wired model. But would the model sit above or below the current  149 Euro INZONE E9? There is room for a premium model priced at 199-249 Euros, but is there a market for such a model? No idea.

For comparison, the INZONE E9 (IER-G900), has an almost identical import description to YY3012.

If YY3012 is not an INZONE model, then it would be a normal in-ear model, something along the line of the past IER-M7/9 models. I checked Sony UK and Germany, and both the M7 and M9 are absent from the sites, and in Canada, it shows the models as out of stock.

Considering this model is not wireless, there will be no certification. I was provided with a list of models to be announced later this year, but this model was not on that list, but I was told the list was not complete.

If anyone has anymore details, please contact me.
