Sony Teases New ULT Speakers

A new teaser has gone up on Sony’s Twitter and websites for new ULT speakers.

The date for the reveal is September 1st at 18:00 CEST. Not much is reveal from the photo, except the outlines of some wireless speakers. There are technically 4 outlines in the teaser, but I do not have any specific details on the exact models being revealed. The outer edges of the speakers look to feature LEDs illuminating the entire edge. Currently no ULT model has this design.

A while back I wrote about a trio of wireless speakers from Sony, see the post below.

A Trio of Sony Speakers Coming Later this Year

It seems plausible that the teaser is either for this model and this model only, or will include this new model, along with another additional model.

While I do have model numbers of other models, there are no certifications or import filings that I have seen.

Here is a larger version of the teaser photo.

Update 1 – August 27

Here are the first photos of the new ULT Speakers, along with the model names, ULT Tower Max, ULT Tower 7, and ULT Tower 5. I was correct that these 3 models are the trio of speakers I wrote about earlier. Thanks to Mr Walkman for the photos.

  • ULT Tower Max – YY7869E – SRS-ULT3000
  • ULT Tower 7 – YY7871E – SRS-ULT700
  • ULT Tower 5 – YY7870E – SRS-ULT500

Specification details are limited, but from what I have been told, all models will come with an IPX4 resistance rating. A quick charge of 10 minutes will provide up to 180 minutes of playback, which is the same as the ULT Tower 9. A stamina mode has also been added to the models, extending the playtime, I believe increasing the playback time up to 2 times.

All models feature a round ULT button on the front. The button can be clicked to cycle through the ULT functions, and rotated for controlling the volume.

A dedicated ‘partychain’ button is used for linking speakers together as one. There is also a dial selector for the various inputs.

There will be support for AAC, SBC, LDAC, along with Auracast. And now for some more photos.

The connectivity on the rear is extensive and should be the same on all 3 models.

  • Wow. The balanced in and out is a bit of a surprise to me. Obviously they feel there’s a commercial/professional market for these as well.
